MOVING TO PROVIDENCE
Welcome to Brown University and the Providence Community! Providence is large enough to offer a great variety of activities, educational opportunities, and entertainment venues, yet small enough to easily navigate all its offerings. Providence is home to an outstanding zoo, a children's museum, excellent arts and culture venues, Broadway shows, a convenient train station, and excellent restaurants that rival or surpass those in the Boston area. Boston is less than one hour away by car. The TF Green Airport is only 20 short minutes away.
OF NOTE: As is the case in many cities, there is no overnight on-street parking in most areas of Providence, so please take this into consideration when moving with a family. You should contact the City of Providence for further details.
To assist with your move to Providence, or a surrounding community, we have provided some useful resources, links, and conveniences to help you settle in. For instance, did you know that Amtrack offers shipping of small packages and less-than-truckload shipping services through Amtrak Express Shipping?
Even better,
the State transportation system, RIPTA is free to all students and employees using a BROWN ID. Buses run frequently and there are several bus routes that will take you from Kennedy Plaza up to College Hill to the Tunnel stop on Thayer Street and to other locations around campus.
