Welcome to the Graduate Student & Postgraduate Parent Resource (GraSPP) Website!

HayesDaughter

This website was developed in response to needs and interest for a resource website for Graduate Students and Postgraduate Parents.

This website is available to all graduate, postgraduate and housestaff parents affiliated or collaborating with Brown University.

Website Mission Statement

The overarching goal of GraSPP is to reduce the attrition of females in the health and science fields during graduate and post-graduate study (including residents). One of the main factors contributing to decreased recruitment and retention of female trainees is childcare and family responsibilities. GraSPP seeks to provide support and a sense of community to help enable trainees, particularly women, to succeed despite the challenge of work/life balance. We anticipate that the supportive network initiated by GraSPP will impact female trainees at a critical stage in their career so that they may achieve the highest level of academic and personal satisfaction.

GraSPP comprises three main components:

  1. Resource and communication website that provides information and promotes peer and mentor networking
  2. Seminars and workshops on family/career balance and professional development; networking events to foster mentoring relationships and a sense of community
  3. Advocacy for supportive institutional policies
