Biography
Dr. Empkie joined the Department of Family Medicine in 1984 where he was Director of Predoctoral Education and coordinated medical student exchanges between Brown and German universities in Rostock and Tuebingen.
1993-2002: leave-of-absence, Project HOPE (international health education foundation), Regional Director, Central and Eastern Europe, Prague, Czech Republic.
2002-present: Assistant Dean of Medicine (PLME Advising)
2005-present: Course instructor, PHP0030-Health of Hispaniola
2010-present: Associate Faculty, Department of Slavic Studies
Other current contributions: co-director, Global Health Scholarly Concentration; coordinator, Brown-Rostock student exchange; executive committee member: Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies; and Family Medicine Global Health group.
