Students must complete a community service internship and an analytic internship.
Public Health/Community Service Internship (BC254) (Vivier) (Summer)
The course is an introduction to the history, organization, resources, concepts and issues of public health and health care. Students will be matched according to their interests in a related practical experience in a health-related organization, with the expectation that they complete a project or produce a product of public health utility. This gives students an opportunity to critically apply knowledge and skills learned in didactic sessions.
Analytic Internship in Public Health
The Analytic Internship provides students the opportunity to apply research methodologies and skills to investigate a problem of public health utility. It may be linked to the development of a thesis topic. The objectives of the Analytic Internship are for students to:
- Apply epidemiological and biostatistical skills to investigate a public health issue.
o Discuss the strengths, weaknesses, and public health implications of research findings.
o Communicate research findings to diverse audiences, including public health professionals and the community.
The analytic internship may either be a six week full-time experience or a semester long part-time experience. Students must identify an appropriate mentor for their analytic internship. The advisor is responsible for approving the student’s plan, supervising internship activities, evaluating internship products and certifying that the student has met the analytic internship objectives as outlined above. The analytic internship mentor must notify the MPH Program Director in writing when all requirements have been satisfied. |
