The Brown Academic Community

The main campus of Brown University is on College Hill in an historic landmark residential area overlooking the center of Providence. Established in 1764, Brown is the third oldest college in New England and the seventh in the country. Since the 1970s, the Medical School has succeeded in redesigning traditional methods of medical education, of which the hallmark is its eight-year continuum of study leading to both the bachelor’s and MD degrees. Brown’s collaborative academic environment, where basic scientists, applied researchers, and physicians work synergistically in classrooms, laboratories, and clinical settings, has positioned the University as a leading research institution.

The Brown University Department of Community Health is the academic home of the MPH Program. The MPH Program was established in 2000 as a collaborative effort between the Brown University Department of Community Health and the Rhode Island Department of Health. The MPH Program received a five-year accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health in 2002. In addition to the MPH degree, the Department of Community Health offers a baccalaureate degree in Community Health, as well as MS and PhD programs in Biostatics, Epidemiology and Health Services Research.
