EducationResearchPublic Policy

The academic goals for the Program in Public Health are broadly focused and encompass an undergraduate concentration and through the Department of Community Health, the following graduate degrees:

Brown is home to nine active, nationally renowned public health research centers. Collaboration with these centers provides students the opportunity to learn how to conduct quality health research and to participate in effective community service initiatives. Each center is home to a robust research program; in all, Brown centers currently have funding in excess of $250 million.

Here at Brown, students and faculty are true partners in improving population health. To see students conducting and translating research into public health policy and practice is exciting. That is our mission - and it works!"
- Terrie Wetle, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Public Health and Public Policy

The Brown Program in Public Health collaborates with centers, institutes, organizations, and agencies throughout the state and region. The Program’s faculty and students continue to strengthen community relationships by building upon current efforts to translate research findings into policy and practice. The Program has strong ties to the Rhode Island Department of Health and these connections contribute to improving the health of the population as a whole and target populations throughout the state such as the underserved, minority, elderly and other vulnerable members of the populace.
