Time and Attendance Policy
Colleagues:
Thank you for participating in the survey regarding how your department tracks vacation, sick and non-exempt time. In reviewing the feedback, it was apparent that no clear consistent practice exists within the Division.
In accordance with federal law, we must track and record non-exempt time and attendance as outlined by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Not adhering to this Act opens the Division and the University to significant financial liability.
Equally important is the tracking of all staff vacation and sick time. Tracking “time off” benefits allows us to fairly and equitably administer this benefit program across the Division and the University.
Attached you will find an outline of the Division’s new Time and Attendance Tracking Practice. The procedures outlined are a combination of input from you coupled with other best known methods for tracking time and attendance. This practice is effective immediately. As a follow-up to our continued commitment to the importance of compliance to the practice, the Division’s Human Resources team will implement a random audit process of individual department’s time and attendance records beginning in January 2007. We look forward to working with individual departments and appreciate your cooperation.
If you have any question please feel free to contact me at 3-3940.
Kindest regards,
Carolyn P. Killian
