TRAVEL POLICY - Procedures for BioMed PhD Students:
The Division believes that presenting papers at professional conferences is important to PhD students' academic careers and growth as professionals. Pre-doctoral students who have been invited to present papers at academic conferences can apply for up to $500 to cover related travel expenses. Students will be reimbursed for only one conference per academic year; reimbursement will not be granted for merely attending a conference. In order to insure that the limited conference-travel funds are distributed as equitably as possible, only students in their second through fifth years of study are eligible for conference travel reimbursement; all students MUST APPLY for travel reimbursement to The Office for Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies at least one month prior to travel. See link below for the application form.
In July 2008, the June Rockwell Levy Foundation announced a gift of $25,000 in current use funds to support predoctoral research travel for PhD students in the Division of Biology and Medicine for July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009. These awards are open to all actively enrolled PhD students who are in good academic standing. Travel awards will be made to students on a competitive basis and are intended to support unique opportunities for PhD students. Awards are limited to 1 per student with a maximum award of $1500. Students must apply for this funding (see application above) and there are three Application Deadlines for funded travel in 2008-09: August 1, 2008, December 1, 2008, and March 1, 2009.
