We offer a very competitive PhD financial support package, an atmosphere of collegiality and collaboration; and many resources that will be available to you as you progress through your graduate career.

As of 2006, PhD students admitted to Brown are guaranteed five years of support which includes stipend, tuition, and health fees as well as health insurance. Student support will be in the form of Divisional Fellowships, Teaching Assistantships, Research Assistantships and Traineeships.

The support package for BioMed PhD students in 2008-09 is:

  • STIPEND: $26,000 PER YEAR
  • TUITION: FULL REMISSION - $36,928
  • HEALTH FEE: $626
  • HEALTH INSURANCE (Single): $2,512

    Students who wish to apply to Brown must apply to Brown's Graduate School. Complete information about the application requirements and process can be found here:

    Applications for most programs must be submitted by January 1st, although several programs have a deadline of December 15th. Completed applications will be forwarded to each Program's Director for consideration by the Admissions Committee. The admission process is extremely competitive with an average of 10% of students who apply being admitted. Students will receive a letter from the Dean of the Graduate School notifying you of Brown's decision.
