Hope Funds for Cancer Research - Offering two-year fellowships to post-doctoral scientists who propose to work on highly innovative research projects that challenge the traditional paradigms of understanding the causes, mechanisms, progression, disease markers or risk factors of the most difficult-to-treat cancers, including pancreatic, lung, liver, sarcomas, esophageal, brain, gastric and ovarian cancers.

Irvington Institute Fellowship Program of the Cancer Research Institutesupports qualified young scientists at leading universities and research centers around the world who wish to receive training in cancer immunology or general immunology.

The Epilepsy Foundation Research and Training Fellowships for Clinicians is for clinically trained professionals. This fellowship is one-year of supervised study and research. Individuals with an MD or DO who will have completed residency training in neurology, neurosurgery, pediatrics, internal medicine, or psychiatry by the time the fellowship commences may apply. Other clinically trained professionals (i.e. PharmD, Doctor of Nursing) are also eligible to apply. ($50,000/year, up to 2 years)

ACS Postdoctoral Fellowships- American Cancer Society (ACS) - This award is to support the training of researchers who have received a doctoral degree to provide initial funding leading to an independent career in cancer research (including basic, preclinical, clinical, cancer control, psychosocial, behavioral, epidemiology, health services and health policy research)

(International Postdocs Eligible-see below) American Lung Association Senior Research Training Fellowship: $32,500/yr. Post-doctoral support for MDs and/or PhDs receiving further academic training as scientific investigators. Research areas of particular interest to the American Lung Association are: adult pulmonary medicine, pediatric pulmonary medicine and lung biology. Duration: up to two years. (Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen or a foreign national holding one of the following visa immigration statuses: Permanent resident, student visa (F-1), exchange visitor (J-1), temporary worker in a specialty occupation (H-1, H-1B), Canadian or Mexican citizen engaging in professional activities (TC, TN), or a temporary worker with extraordinary abilities in the sciences (O-1).)

(International Postdocs Eligible) Pancreatic Cancer Action Network AARC Fellowship represents a joint effort to attract young scientists to careers in pancreatic cancer research. The Fellowship is open to Postdoctoral Fellows and Clinical Research Fellows working at an academic, medical, or research institution who will be in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of their postdoctoral training at the start of the grant term on July 1, 2010.

(International Postdocs Eligible) Pancreatic Cancer Action Network AARC Pathway to Leadership Grant represents a joint effort to ensure the future leadership of pancreatic cancer research by supporting outstanding early career investigators beginning in their postdoctoral research positions and continuing through their successful transition to independence.  Applicants must be in the first five years of their postdoctoral or clinical research fellowships at the time of application (i.e., they must have started their fellowship on or after July 2, 2005) and not already have a full‐time tenure track assistant professor position (or equivalent).

Canary Foundation / ACS Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Early Detection of Cancer- The Canary Foundation, in partnership with the American Cancer Society, is extending its postdoctoral fellowship program focused on studies towards development of strategies for the early detection of cancer. Research should be directed at new approaches to improve clinical methods for the detection of primary tumors and/or metastases, including, but not limited to research focused in the following areas

  • Minimally invasive strategies for early detection
  • Biomarker identification or discovery
  • Imaging, including novel molecular imaging strategies
  • Segmentation of early stage disease according to prognosis

(International Postdocs Eligible) Department of Defense (DOD) Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) Lung Cancer Research Program (LCRP) Clinical Fellow Research Award (CFRA) supports a research project performed by a clinical fellow under the guidance of a designated mentor having an established lung cancer research program. This award is intended to prepare fellows with clinical duties and/or responsibilities for a career in lung cancer research.

The Columbia University Earth Institute Fellows Program provides innovative postdoctoral scholars with the opportunity to build a foundation in one of the core disciplines represented within the Earth Institute (i.e., any of the social, earth, biological, engineering and health sciences), while at the same time acquiring the cross-disciplinary expertise and breadth needed to address critical issues related to sustainable development and reducing environmental degradation, poverty, hunger and disease.

These awards cover travel related to the ASPET Experimental Biology '10 Conference and are a fixed sum of $600 plus registration. All travel awards are inclusive of registration and are given to partially defray the costs of travel and housing. Membership restrictions apply.

The Reeve Foundation Daniel Heumann Young Scientists Fund
While the program accepts applications from established scientists and young investigators, the DHYSF specifically supports the research efforts of postdoctoral fellows who usually have completed their doctoral degrees within the last 5 years. Two-year postdoctoral fellowships are available with a maximum funding level of $60,000 per year, limited to a maximum of 10% overhead costs at the research institutions.

(International Postdocs Eligible) Ellison/AFAR Postdoctoral Fellowships in Aging Research Program is meant to encourage and further the careers of postdoctoral fellows with outstanding promise in the basic biological and biomedical sciences relevant to understanding aging processes and age-related diseases and disabilities. The award is intended to provide significant support to permit these postdoctoral fellows to become established in the field of aging. International postdocs are eligible.

Pathway to Independence Award in Cancer Nanotechnology Research (K99/R00) - The primary purpose of this Pathway to Independence Award Program is to increase and maintain a strong cohort of new talented investigators focused on research in cancer nanotechnology. The program is designed to facilitate a timely transition from a mentored postdoctoral research position to a stable independent research position with independent research support at an earlier stage than is currently the norm.
