Dr. Daley's interests focus on the process of tissue repair following injury. Tissue healing requires a series of well coordinated events involving different types of cells. Dr. Daley's research focuses on the characteristics, functions, and interactions of the neutrophils and macrophages which participate in the repair process. An understanding of these cellular functions and cellular interactions may suggest opportunities for therapeutic intervention in impaired healing.
Biography
Dr. Jean Daley is a graduate of Bowdoin College and Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in General Surgery and a Research Fellowship in Surgery at Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital. She is presently Assistant Professor of Surgery (Research). Her research focuses on the phenotypic and functional characteristics of neutrophils and macrophages in a mouse model of tissue injury.
Research Description
Tissue healing requires a series of well coordinated events involving different types of cells. Studies in the laboratory focus on the phenotypic and functional profiles of wound neutrophils and wound macrophages. We have observed that wound neutrophils have the capacity to influence macrophage phenotype and function. Ongoing studies focus on the heterogeneity of macrophage populations in the wound, researching the origins and functional consequences of macrophage diversity in the wound environment.
