Stockrooms

Service comes first for BioMed Stores Operations when supporting the Division’s operations on the main campus and at the 70 Ship Street facility. Led by Gerry Levesque, Stores Operations Supervisor, the Stores Operations team works to keep over 85 active teaching and research labs running smoothly by ordering, managing and distributing scientific supplies in an efficient manner.

The stockrooms keep over 700 items on hand, from dry supplies like pipette tips and gloves to reagents and buffer solutions. Chemicals such as acetone, chloroform, glycerin, ethanol and methanol are also in stock. If they don’t already have what you need, you can talk with the Operations Manager, Carol Viveiros, about getting the item in stock, or they can assist you in procuring the item through online programs with Fisher Scientific, Invitrogen or USA Scientific.

Using the Stockroom online ordering system is easy. To register for the Fisher online ordering site, please contact Debra Scaramuzzi in the Purchasing Department at 863-2206.

Stores Operations maintains special products such as dry ice and liquid nitrogen. They also maintain freezer programs with PromegaExpress and Invitrogen, so the cold storage items your lab needs, from enzymes to nucleic acids, are readily available.

Working with Stores Operations can help reduce your lab’s operating costs. In the past few years, Stores Operations has helped BioMed research labs save over $350,000 through special arrangements with vendors.

The stockrooms’ on-hand resources help your lab stay uncluttered by keeping excess supplies out of your workspace. When something runs low, whether it is a case of petri dishes or a bottle of agar, the staff can deliver just what you need to your lab, in a time-sensitive manner and free of charge.
