Equipment Planning Services

When your lab is looking to add or upgrade a piece of research equipment, the BioMed Facilities Planning and Operations team is your primary point of contact. They support the missions of research at Brown by consulting with PIs and research staff to create solutions that fit the lab's needs and adhere to policy and building requirements.

They have a broad library of resources with a range of options to meet any need when you are in the process of researching and selecting new lab equipment. No matter which stage of planning your lab is in, matching resources are available for you: consulting on lab products, reaching out to vendors for further information, or contacting a sales representative for an estimate and purchase.

They are here to help you with renovation projects and planning for equipment, considering all angles with the objective of creating a complete package that functions properly from its inception. Whether you're looking for a new tissue culture hood, photo processor or mass spectrometer, the FPO staff will draw on their experience to guide you to the right equipment for your purpose and your work space. They will work with you to define your needs, evaluate product specifications, and design the right equipment placement for your space. FPO can assist with scope documents and cost estimates. Further considerations include, but are not limited to, departmental objectives, environmental issues, equipment utility requirements and existing utilities, and compliance with University standards.
