Education
Education, training, and career development are critical to "filling the pipeline" of clinical and translational research investigators. To meet society's health needs, we need a highly trained and diverse workforce dedicated to bringing much-needed solutions from the laboratory bench to the bedside of ill patients, and more broadly, to public health interventions in our communities.
To meet these educational needs, the Rhode Island Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (CCTS) provides a continuum of educational opportunities. These are designed to meet the needs of a wide range of individuals, from undergraduates to those already doctorally trained in relevant disciplines, including the basic sciences, engineering, medicine, pharmacy, and nursing.
The CCTS has three broad aims related to its educational initiatives:
- To educate and mentor clinicians and doctorally trained basic scientists to become independent investigators in the area of clinical and translational research;
- To improve the literacy of clinicians in the area of clinical and translational research so that they become better participants and collaborators in clinical and translational research; and
- To educate and mentor pre-doctoral students to enter careers in clinical and translational research.
