Capital Budget Process

A capital expenditure is incurred when funds are used either to buy a new fixed asset or to add to the value of an existing asset. Capital expense requests made by Bio Med Division departments or centers should be submitted for consideration by email to Peter Holden (Director of Facilities Planning and Operations), with a CC to Eduardo J. Lorente (Manager of Planning and Analysis).

Once a request is received, the requesting person will be contacted by the Bio Med Office of Facilities Planning and Operations to discuss the acquisition or project in detail. Depending on the nature of the expenditure, smaller projects will be reviewed for approval by Peter Holden. Expenditures that are estimated at $7,500 or greater will be submitted for additional analysis to the Capital Planning Committee (CPC) .  The committee which consists of Peter Holden; Lindsay Graham (Exec. Dean for Administration); and James Patti (Associate Dean for Finance and Planning), meets quarterly to review and prioritize large capital expenditures.

All efforts will be made to expedite the review process, and the requesting person will be kept informed of any changes in the status of their request.  However, if you are not contacted within 5 business days of submitting your initial email, please contact the Office of Facilities Planning and Operations (863-2483) to check on your request.
