Chapter 5STANDING COMMITTEES
Biology Curriculum Committee (Marjorie Thompson, Ph.D., Chair): To review and recommend new undergraduate and graduate-level courses, consider curricular changes and oversee the programs and policies leading to fulfillment of undergraduate concentrations in the Biological Sciences. This committee makes its recommendations to the Program in Biology Faculty, to the College Curriculum Council, and in matters concerning graduate-level courses, to the Graduate Council. Continuing Medical Education Advisory Committee (James Hennessey, M.D., Chair): To assist the Continuing Medical Education Office in the development of standards and policies necessary for the production of high quality educational programs. Its responsibilities include needs assessment, long-range planning, and consideration of ethical issues and co-sponsorship issues in Continuing Medical Education. Graduate Medical Education Committee (Michele Cyr, M.D., Chair): To review residency and fellowship programs and develop criteria for recognition as University-sponsored programs. Medical Committee on Academic Standing (Philip Gruppuso, M.D., Chair): 1) To review at regular intervals the academic performance and timely progress of all medical students and make recommendations to the Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences regarding retention and promotion; 2) To review and make assessments upon the request of the Associate Dean of Medicine (Medical Education) on the interim academic performance of medical students; 3) To review academic policy matters including requests for exceptions, appeals, and/or grievances relating to medical students; and 4) To review all candidates for the MD degree and make recommendations to the Biomedical Faculty Council for the granting of that degree. A subcommittee, the PLME Undergraduate Affairs Committee, will report on the academic progress of PLME students during their undergraduate college years to the full Medical Committee on Academic Standing. Medical Curriculum Committee (Harlan Rich, M.D., Chair) : To review and recommend new courses, consider curricular changes, and supervise the implementation of the curriculum leading to the MD degree. A subcommittee, the PLME; Undergraduate Affairs Committee, will oversee PLME undergraduates' educational planning and accomplishments while they are still formerly enrolled in the College, and will report to the Dean of the College; and the FCEL; as well as to the Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences. In addition to these standing committees, various ad hoc committees or working groups will be appointed by the Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences for special purposes. |
