Competency Requirements in each Ability;
Courses & Activities satisfying each of the 9 Abilities

Each student must attain competence in all nine abilities and across the entire knowledge base. Among
the abilities, students must attain an intermediate level of competence in all nine, and an advanced
level of competence in problem solving and three others of the student's choice.

To attain competence, students must receive the required number of certifications in the ability in
which competence is being sought. (see table that follows)

Medical school courses and some undergraduate college courses are empowered to certify student
competence in various abilities at specified levels, and for certain components of the knowledge base.

Students can meet competency requirements through independent study (see "How to apply
for competency certification for independent study") and for work previously done elsewhere
(see "How to apply for advanced placement"). On occasion, students may apply for retroactive credit
for courses taken as an undergraduate.
