Cognitive Content:     As an acting intern on a busy GYN Oncology Service, the student will function as a primary part of the integrated cancer surgery team, researching, planning and executing clinical care to women with gynecologic cancers.  This vigorous rotation will expose the student to surgery, medical management and lifestyle of academic gynecologic oncology, itself a major sub-specialty of gynecology

Prerequisites:     Clerkships in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Surgery, and Medicine

Criteria for Passing:     Understanding the process of patient management, developing and executing treatment planning and caring for dying patients.

Criteria for Honors:     Acquiring the skills and the emotion to function as an effective junior housestaff member on this busy surgical/oncology service—responsible for half the inpatients.

Competencies:     Ability IV:  advanced level

Number of Hrs/Wk of Classroom/Discussion:        10

Number of Nights Oncall per Week:     None

Planned Independent Projects for Students:     An oral presentation with handout on Gyn/Oncology topic at the end of the rotation.

Description:     The student will be part of the team of attending surgeons, oncologists, housestaff, nurse oncologists and social service in Ward Rounds, admitting and caring for inpatients, participating in oncologic surgery, presenting cases at conferences and attending various events of the busy work-week.
