Duration of Rotation:     1-4 weeks

Type of Rotation:     Consultation Service

Cognitive Content:     Learning physiology and pathology of disease processes, learning to develop clinical skills, and receiving an exposure to heart surgery.

Prerequisites:     No specific courses, but an understanding of the anatomy, physiology and pathology of disease processes is required.

Criteria for Passing:     Show basic understanding of pathophysiology of disease, participate in group discussions, attend all lectures.

Criteria for Honors:     Hard-working, knowledgeable, participate in group discussion, show initiative and leadership qualities

Competencies:     Ability II: intermediate/advanced level, Ability III: intermediate/advanced level, Ability IV: intermediate/advanced level, Provisionally approved

Number of Hrs/Wk of Classroom/Discussion:        6-8

Number of Nights Oncall per Week:     1-2

Planned Independent Projects for Students:     If student stays longer than 4 weeks.

Description:      Student's primary activity during the course will be to attend the lectures, examine the patients, do histories and physicals, observe and scrub in operating room, and be involved in pre-operative and post-operative patient care.
