Maximum Students per Rotation:     2 (one for each inpatient team)

Duration of Rotation:     4 weeks

Type of Rotation:     Subinternship

Cognitive Content:     The elective will provide pediatric experience beyond that offered in the basic clerkship and resembles an internship.  He/She will admit patients to the pediatric service, perform history and physical exams, outline management and follow-up care with pediatric resident input.  The elective will emphasize the student's direct involvement in general inpatient pediatrics.  Frequent conferences will be held with the faculty.

Prerequisites:     Clerkship in Pediatrics

Criteria for Passing:     An effective and competent performance and good recommendations from supervising attending physician and supervising resident.

Criteria for Honors:     Outstanding performance of required duties particularly upon the recommendations of the attending physician and resident that student's clinical performance was similar to or surpassed that of a current first year resident.

Competencies:     Ability II: advanced level, Ability IV: advanced level, Ability IX: advanced level, Provisionally approved

Oncall per Week:     1-2

Description:     Student will perform pediatric ward duties as if he/she were an intern in Pediatrics.  However, there will be much closer supervision by pediatric faculty or residents.
