Duration of Rotation:     4 weeks

Type of Rotation:     Consultation Service

Cognitive Content:     Understanding the pathophysiology, clinical course and presentation and treatment of congenital heart disease as well as routine cardiac complaints of infancy and childhood.

Prerequisites:     Completion of Clerkship in Pediatrics

Criteria for Passing:     Student should attend at least 2/3 of clinic sessions and demonstrate ability to differentiate functional from important murmurs and interpret EKG's and chest x-rays in children on a basic level.

Criteria for Honors:     Student should submit a written report of quality sufficient to indicate a careful search and understanding of current literature.  In addition, clinical skills to differentiate common forms of heart diseases would be expected.

Competencies:     Ability I: advanced level, Ability II: advanced level, Ability III: advanced level, Provisionally approved

Planned Independent Projects for Students:     Students will be asked to submit a brief report (4-6 pages) on a topic of clinical interest.

Description:      Student's primary activity will be observing and performing clinical evaluations, both inpatient and outpatient.
