Type of Rotation:     Consultation Service

Cognitive Content:   The elective will provide a sampling of neurological surgery experience through participation in teaching rounds and conferences of the neurosurgery residency program, patient management discussions and observation of neurosurgical operations.

Prerequisites: Clerkship in Surgery

Criteria for Passing:  Effective and competent participation as outlined above and favorable recommendations from both supervising attending physician and supervising resident.

Criteria for Honors:  Outstanding performance of required duties as evaluated by both supervising attending physician and supervising resident.  In-depth research of a patient problem, active participation in Journal Club, and written discussion of a case presentation.

Competencies:         Ability II: advanced level, Ability IX: advanced level, Provisionally approved

Number of Hrs/Wk of Classroom/Discussion:       10

Number of Nights Oncall per Week: Variable

Planned Independent Projects for Students: 1-2

Description:   Student's primary activity will be patient assessment, patient rounds, conference attendance, and surgical participation.
