Duration of Rotation:     4 weeks

Type of Rotation:     Inpatient consultative

Cognitive Content:     Knowledge of the physiology of normal pregnancy and the pathophysiology of disease occurring in pregnancy and postpartum.  Skills in the diagnosis and treatment of medical complications of pregnancy.  Knowledge about the use of drugs in pregnancy.  Basic knowledge of preoperative evaluation and diagnosis and management of perioperative medical complications.  The ability to perform complete and concise medical consults.

Prerequisites:     Completion of Clerkships in Medicine, Ob/Gyn, Surgery

Competencies:     Ability II: advanced level, Ability IV: advanced level, Ability IX: advanced level, Provisionally approved

Planned Independent Proposals:     Expected to prepare a brief oral presentation on a topic of choice.  Support & guidance provided by course leader for project.

Description:     Student will participate fully as a team member in Obstetrics & Consultative Medical Service at Women & Infant’s Hospital.  Will see new consults, follow-up on previous consults, work & teaching rounds, attend regular conferences and lectures.
