Duration of Rotation:     4 weeks

Type of Rotation:     Ambulatory consultative

Cognitive Content:     The student will build a basic fund of knowledge about pregnancy complicated by preterm labor, preterm rupture of membranes, diabetes, hypertensive disorders and other common clinical problems encountered by staff.

Prerequisites:     Completion of Year III and Clerkship in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Criteria for Passing:     Clinical availability, conference presentation, responsible care of patients.  The student will participate in clinical activities at the Prenatal Diagnosis Center and Women's Primary Care Center.

Criteria for Honors:     Excellence in patient assessment and treatment plans, highly active in patient care, excellent conference presentation, active participation at rounds.

Competencies:     Ability I: advanced level, Ability IV: advanced level, Ability V: advanced level, Provisionally approved

Number of Hrs/Wk of Classroom/Discussion:        Rounds 7 hrs/wk, conference 5 hrs/wk

Number of Nights Oncall per Week:     1-2

Planned Independent

Projects for Students:     Each student will present one clinically oriented subject review during the rotation.

Description:     Student will be part of a team caring for active inpatient and outpatient service of women with complicated pregnancies and will be responsible for following particular patients.  Also, the student will participate in genetic counseling sessions and ultrasound investigation of fetal anatomy at the Division's Prenatal Diagnosis Center.
