Cognitive Content: This elective experience will provide an opportunity to review diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases with special emphasis on differential diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic use.
Prerequisites:
Clerkship in Medicine with significant direct patient contact, good fund of knowledge of general internal medicine, good history and physical skills, able to provide differential diagnosis.
Criteria
for Passing: Students are expected to perform written evaluations of their patients (detailed history and physical and daily progress notes) and make formal presentations during rounds. Students must demonstrate adequate knowledge of ID and show growth and improvement during their 4 week course.
Criteria
for Honors: Honors
grade is reserved for students who demonstrate an extraordinary fund of
knowledge and who perform at the highest possible level clinically.

Planned Independent Projects for Students: Students are asked to review clinical problems in depth and report to the rounding group.
Description:
The students primary activity will be to perform in depth evaluations on inpatients seen in consultation on a busy Infectious Disease Service (based on a detailed history and physical exam) and to participate in rounds and teaching conferences directed at diagnosis and management of these infections.
