Type of Rotation: Consultation and Ambulatory Service

Cognitive Content: A successful student will be competent in the evaluation and initial management of anemias, bleeding disorders, leukemias, tumors of the hematopoietic system, and solid tumors.  This course has been designed as a logical extension to the hematology section of BioMed 281 Pathophysiology Course.

Prerequisites: Hematology Section of BioMed 281 Pathophysiology

Criteria for Passing: The student will demonstrate competence in the diagnosis, initial management, and laboratory evaluation of patients with hematologic and oncologic disorders.

Criteria for Honors: The student will achieve standards required for passing grade and then demonstrate significant extension of these skills through the independent study project.

Planned Independent Projects for Students: Clinical case report suitable for publication, presentation, or second year Hematology course discussion.

Description:  Students will participate in the diagnosis, care and laboratory evaluation of patients with hematologic and oncologic disorders encountered in daily medicine and hematology/oncology consultations.
