Cognitive
Content: Students will be exposed to a broad variety of both
hematologic and oncologic problems.
Prerequisites: Clerkship in Medicine
Criteria
for Passing: Student is expected to be an active participant in
both the inpatient and outpatient setting to participate in all case presentations,
seminars and conferences. They
will also spend time with hematology, pathology and blood banking personnel.
Criteria
for Honors: Exemplary performance in both inpatient and outpatient
setting, independent project successfully completed or with substantial
progress made on project during course elective

Independent Projects for Students:
Students will be encouraged to undertake a project
either chart review or if the student wishes to begin a study with one of
the preceptors in the course.
Description: Students will have the opportunity to participate in
an active clinical hematology/oncology service both in the inpatient and
outpatient setting. They will
have the opportunity to work with attending staff, hematology/oncology fellow
and medical residents assigned to the service as well as pathology and hematology
personnel. Clinical diagnosis,
blood and bone marrow morphology and therapeutic modalities will be stressed.
