Cognitive
Content: Topics covered: typical geriatric syndromes (assessment
and management), i.e. incontinence, delirium and dementia, etc., geriatric
pharmacology, geriatric nutrition, social support and physical therapy services,
concepts of functional and cognitive assessment, basic rehabilitation principles.
Prerequisites: Clerkship in Medicine
Criteria
for Passing: Active participation in all scheduled didactic and
case-based discussions and consultations; independent performance of a functional
assessment, a cognitive assessment, and an accurate neurologic exam; preparation
of a discussion on a geriatric or rehabilitation topic of the students choice.
Criteria
for Honors: As above plus the student will display the ability
to integrate basic geriatric principles into patient assessment, generation
of differential diagnoses and development of a therapeutic plan.
Competencies: Ability II: advanced level, Ability
IV: advanced level, Ability VII: intermediate level, Provisionally
