Cognitive Content: This clerkship is designed to enable the student to approach dermatologic evaluation and management in a coherent algorithm manner. The student will be introduced to a wide variety of dermatologic scenarios to include the Emergency Room, the inpatient consultation service, the outpatient ambulatory, and dermatologic surgical practice. Lectures and didactic-socratic discussions will be provided by the residents and the full-time faculty on an almost daily basis.
Prerequisites: Introduction to Clinical Medicine required, Clerkship in Medicine or Pediatrics preferred
Criteria for Passing: Near-perfect attendance and the demonstration of the ability to perform and describe the findings of a complete dermatologic examination and to arrive at a plan for diagnosis and management.
Criteria for Honors: Perfect attendance, honors grade on oral exam, exceptional enthusiasm, and an outstanding fund of knowledge that is successfully integrated in patient evaluation and management.

Planned Independent Projects for Students: Required
Description: The student will participate in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of patients presenting with primary skin diseases. The student will present a dermatologic case of their choice to their colleagues and a faculty member.
