Cognitive Content:     The student will gain an understanding of the anatomy demonstrated on cross-sectional imaging and its relationship to the common pathologic processes encountered during the imaging evaluation of inpatients and outpatients.

Prerequisites:     Introductory course in diagnostic radiology

Criteria for Passing:     Attendance on a daily basis, basic comprehension of anatomy, and ability to provide minimal film interpretation

Criteria for Honors:     An understanding of anatomy sufficient to independently interpret images and provide a basic differential diagnosis.

Competencies:     Ability II: advanced level

Number of Hrs/Wk of Classroom/Discussion:        25-30

Number of Nights Oncall per Week:     None

Planned Independent Projects for Students:     The student will be expected to prepare a case for discussion.  Optionally, opportunities for research may be provided.

Description:     This course is primarily aimed at the student considering a career in diagnostic radiology, although students interested in other fields will also benefit from a knowledge of cross-sectional imaging.  In addition to teaching at the viewbox, the student is encouraged to attend the daily teaching conference and the many weekly clinicoradiological conferences.  The student will also attend the weekly cross-sectional imaging fellows' conference, and is expected to present a case for discussion at this conference toward the end of the elective.
