Type of Rotation:     Consultation Service

Cognitive Content:     The student will be exposed to patients with acute cardiac syndromes requiring intensive care including invasive monitoring and interventional procedures.

Prerequisites:     Clerkship in Medicine

Criteria for Passing:     Basic clinical skills, using basic science to guide therapy, diagnosis, management, and prevention, problem-solving

Criteria for Honors:     Development of independent ability to diagnosis and prioritize problems in patients with acute coronary syndromes and to develop a pertinent management plan.

Competencies:     Ability II: intermediate/advanced level, Ability IV: intermediate/advanced level

Number of Hrs/Wk of Classroom/Discussion:        15

Number of Nights Oncall per Week:     Optional

Planned Independent Projects for Students:     Can be arranged

Description:      Participate in the evaluation and management of CCU patients by writing history and physicals, progress notes, and preliminary orders. The student will have the opportunity to observe various interventional cardiology procedures.
