Type of Rotation: Combination of in and out patient
Cognitive Content: This elective provides the student with experience involving bedside teaching, small group discussions, and informal conferences with members of the Cardiology staff. Interpretation of electrocardiograms are done on a one-on-one basis with a full-time member of the Cardiology staff. The elective emphasizes disease pathophysiology, rational approach to therapy including preventive aspects of cardiovascular disease management, clinical cardiac pharmacology, and important drug interactions.
Prerequisites: Completion of Year 2
Criteria for Honors: Outstanding with regard to attitude, knowledge base, history and physical taking, evaluation and management, written and oral presentations as well as improvement and growth throughout the four weeks.
Competencies: Ability II - Advanced level; Ability IV - Advanced level
Planned Independent Projects: Journal club presentation and one lunchtime presentation relevant to subject of students’ choosing.

Description: Clinical evaluation of inpatients and outpatients via history & physical, EKG, echo, TEE, stress echo, nuclear stress, cath lab, including PTCA/STENT as well as pacer/E.P. Evaluation of open heart patients – observation as well as pre & post op care.
