Type of Rotation:     Ambulatory

Cognitive Content:     Students are expected to expand their understanding of surgical gastrointestinal diseases, and will be given the opportunity to apply their knowledge to clinical situations.

Prerequisites:     Clerkships in Medicine and Surgery

Criteria for Passing:     Regular attendance, punctuality, satisfactory knowledge of surgery, satisfactory ability to apply surgical principles to clinical situations, satisfactory clinical abilities.  Satisfactory final oral exam.

Criteria for Honors:     As above, with demonstration of superior knowledge, clinical skills and abilities by the end of the course.  Outstanding final oral exam.

Competencies:     Ability IV: intermediate/advanced level, Ability IX: intermediate/advanced level, Provisionally approved

Planned Independent Projects for Students:     Only clinical projects are encouraged, with faculty guidance and supervision.

Description:      Students will spend time with course leader and/or faculty in daily conference, operating room, wards, endoscopy unit and ambulatory setting discussing diagnosis and therapy of surgical disorders of the alimentary tract.
