Criteria for Honors: Exemplary performance in both inpatient and outpatient setting, completion or progress towards and independent project during this rotation.

Description: WIH offers the unique advantage to have a focused rotation through the Program in Women's Oncology. The student will have the opportunity to participate in the care of women with a gynecological or breast malignancy and to work in a multidisciplinary involvement with daily interaction with both surgical and radiation oncology specialists. Clinical care, pathologic correlation, and collaborative services will be stressed. The course will address Mechanics of neoplasia, Diagnosis & Intervention/Therapies of Cancer; Pharmacologic interventions in Cancer including drug toxicity and its manifestations; Biopsychosocial effects of a cancer diagnosis on the patient and the family/supportive unit; Breast and Gynecologic Cancer management; Approach to the elderly patient with cancer; Treatment decision-making; Managing Oncologic emergencies; and The delivery of bad news.
