Criteria for Honors: Successful participation in all out-pt. sessions and independent direct involvedness with the inpatient service and OR procedures.

Description: The student is involved in the out-pt. office of pediatric surgery. He/she joins the attending in focused encounter for initial, as well as, follow-up surgical visits. Focus is on particular patient's problems, history of patient's surgical interventions. Exposure to common problems such as soft tissue masses, hernia hydrocele, general urinary anomalies, complex vascular malformations, chest wall deformities & post-traumatic follow-up. Students are also exposed to abdominal and thoracic complaints. He/she will participate in trauma care of admitted patients through the Level-I trauma center. Students are exposed to severe congenital problems in the fetal or newborn patient requiring surgery. They are exposed to surgical specialties, occupational and physical therapists, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialist that assist pediatric surgeons with the care of these infants & children. Students are often asked to help arrange care plan for these infants & children as well as to check back with the patients.
