Duration: 3 weeks (class on 9/20/06, 10/25/06 and 11/8/06)

Location: The first two classes will be held in the Bio-Med Center room 212. The last class will be held at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island.

Times of year when elective is not offered: December-May

Description: In keeping with the mission of Brown Medical School this course will provide a forum for students to explore—social, cultural, economic, systemic, legal and ethical issues—and how they contribute to disparities in health and health care. Through mediated discussion, the classes will focus on developing the knowledge and perspectives necessary for making practical and ethical decisions that are sensitive to the beliefs, values, and expectations of patients, families, communities, and the providers who care for them. This course is in collaboration with Roger Williams University and Brown medical students will be joined by law students from Roger Williams Law School for all three seminars.
