June 2008 Haffenreffer House Staff Excellence Award
 

In 1946 the Haffenreffer family established the Haffenreffer House Staff Excellence Award to honor outstanding members of the hospital’s house staff.  This year Keith Monchik and Jonathan Schiller, both Chief Residents, were two of the five house staff members to receive this award.  The Department congratulates Keith and Jonathan.

Keith Monchik and Alan Zonno were chosen to participate in the New England Fracture Forum 17th Annual Meeting, April 17th and 18th, 2008.  The New England Fracture Forum was founded by Dr. Jesse Jupiter of Massachusetts General Hospital after he attended a similar program in Nottingham, England, and held the first meeting in Boston on April 17, 1991.

  Matthew Plante, received a $20,000 2007 Resident Clinician Scientist Training Grant from the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation for his research – Tibiofemoral Contact Pressures: A Comparison of Single-Bundle and Double-Bundle Reconstructive Techniques. September 2007 Jonathan Schiller paper accepted for the Annual Meeting of the ASSH

September 2007 Amar Patel recieves OREF/JBJS Orthopedic Educational Support Grant
  Amar Patel received a $3,000 OREF/JBJS Orthopedic Educational Support Grant for the 2006-2007 academic year.

  Amar Patel received a $3,000 Hark Lectureship Grant from the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation for the 2006-2007 academic year.
August 2007 Matthew Plante wins Grant
  Matthew Plante, one of our Chief Residents, won an Eastern Orthopaedic Association’s Resident and Fellow Travel Grant for his abstract entitled, “Zolpidem reduces post-operative pain following ACL reconstruction”. Matthew presented his paper on August 3, 2007 at the Eastern & Southern Orthopaedic Associations Combined Annual Meeting in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

  In July 2007, Amar Patel, one of our current Trauma Fellows, has received a $20,000 OTC/AIOD grant for his ankle trauma research.
July 2007 Keith Monchik has abstract accepted for a podium presentation
  Keith Monchik, one of our Chief Residents, had his abstract, “Zolpidem reduces post-operative pain following ACL reconstruction”, accepted for a podium presentation on July 19, 2007 at the Western Orthopaedic Association’s Annual Meeting in San Diego, California.
May 2007 Keith Monchik places second in the New England Resident Research Symposium
  Keith Monchik received the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation Second Place Award in the New England Resident Research Symposium on May 11, 2007.

  Matthew Plante received the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation Third Place Award in the New England Resident Research Symposium on May 11, 2007.
March 2007 Keith Monchik presents two lectures at the EMS Today Conference & Exposition
  Keith Monchik presented two lectures: “Managing the Injured Athlete” and “Orthopaedic Trauma”, at the EMS Today Conference & Exposition, March 6 – 10, 2007 in Baltimore, Maryland. Keith also participated in “Lightning Round #3 Ask the Street Medicine Docs”.
March 2007 Jonathan Schiller spends a day with the 8th grade students from Lincoln Middle School
  In March of 2007 - Jonathan Schiller spent a day with the 8 th grade students, from Lincoln Middle School, who have been exploring biomedical engineering principles and designing procedures to solve medical problems. Susan Johnson, who runs the industrial technology department at the school, received funding for this innovative educational project from the PACT Teacher Grant Program.
