Division of Adult Reconstructive Surgery The Reconstructive surgical service concentrates on the care of patients with joint diseases. Diagnostic investigation and therapeutic intervention are the major activities of the Reconstructive service. Active surgical services are currently present at both the Rhode Island Hospital and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Reconstructive service at Rhode Island Hospital is the largest orthopaedic service, and treats patients with joint complaints in both the inpatient and outpatient environments. The V.A. Medical Center is a referral center for southeastern New England and treats diagnostic and therapeutic problems referred from other institutions. Procedures for joint diseases cover the entire spectrum of reconstructive surgery at both facilities. Conferences for the Reconstructive service are open forums, conducted on a weekly basis, consisting of case presentations and discussions by residents and attending staff. Bimonthly didactic conferences are held for the purpose of discussing concepts and trends that pertain to reconstructive surgery. During the beginning of the academic year, anatomy dissections aid the residents in understanding anatomy and surgical approaches for reconstructive surgery. The goals of the Reconstructive service are to maintain high quality care to patients, and to educate residents as practitioners in the care of those suffering from joint disease. |
