Polycystic Kidney Disease
This is an example of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease which usually becomes manifest in middle age. A normal adult kidney (center) is shown for comparison. This disease also has cardiovascular manifestations. Most cases are due to an abnormal PKD-1 gene on chromosome 16.
