What are stem cells?

Status of stem cell therapeutics currently under research

Who can benefit?

Although much advancement is being made in the field of stem cells, there are still years of research and testing to be conducted before major changes surface. Experts, however, are predicting that when these changes do arrive, stem cell research could potentially help up to half of all American people who fall victim to some type of presently incurable ailment, injury or defect. Some of these conditions are:

  • One million children with juvenile diabetes
  • 8.2 million people with cancer
  • 58 million people with heart disease
  • Four million suffering from Alzheimer’s disease
  • 10 million with osteoporosis
  • 43 million people with arthritis
  • 250,000 paralysis victims of spinal cord injury
  • 30,000 victims of Lou Gehrig’s disease
