The two main groups of cartilage on the shoulder are both associated with the GHJ. The glenoid is the cartilage that lines the inside of the acromion, and the labrum is the cartilage on top of the humerus. Researchers believe that cartilage is the key element in stability of the shoulder. Any disruption of the rotator cuff or the GHJ causes a degradation of cartilage. Looking toward the future, researches believe that if we can surgically repair the cartilage in shoulder, we will be able to restore stability and balance to the shoulder without actually replacing the entire shoulder itself.
