  Introduction

The field of prosthetics has been around for thousands of years, dating back to the early Egyptians. Hand prosthetics have evolved slowly, however, with a basic cosmetic, and only minimally functional design persisting until very recently. The need for prosthetics has been growing, with over 50,000 amputations every year in the US. Recent technological advances have sparked great interest and hope for more functional prosthetics that can be controlled with the mind!
