An estimated 17 million Americans have diabetes.****

 

Only 11.1 million have be diagnosed.****

That leaves 5.9 who have not been diagnosed.****

Anywhere from 5-10% of those diagnosed have Type I diabetes.****
So 90-95% have Type II diabetes.****

These statistics are just a taste of the extent to which diabetes touches the lives of Americans. For this reason more effective therapies and possible prevention techniques are very important.

The therapies of the future are going to be based on biotechnology.
Our aim is to bring you an understanding of this biotechnology, its current uses in the insulin pump, and future prospectives, as well as a brief description of the pathology of diabetes and normal insulin function.
