Xenotransplant Core

The Xenotransplant Core will be utilized by the research projects to relate specific exposures to morphological and molecular tissues alterations.

Functioning as the site of the initiation of the experiments carried out by the research projects, this core provides an on-demand service that coordinates with the Tissue Procurement Core to transplant fetal tissue as it becomes available into xenogeneic hosts. After exposure to the host, the underlying mechanisms of environmentally-induced fetal disease will be pursued by examining the tissues for morphological and molecular alterations, and by identifying novel biomarkers of effect

Specific Aims

  • Provide animal surgery and model development services.
  • Interact with research investigators to initiate animal experiments in support of the research projects.
  • Implement current and emerging surgical techniques in xenotransplant model development and train technical staff.
