Brown University Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Medical Student Teaching

  printable page

Philosophy of Teaching: Pathology has traditionally been considered a descriptive discipline dealing with the morphological aspects of disease in organs, tissues and cells. Although training in diagnostic skills is essential for the practice of pathology, this is not the major concern for medical students. Instead, pathology is seen as a basic medical science that directly interacts with both biological science and clinical medicine. The goals of our General and Systemic Pathology courses are to understand and think critically about causes and mechanisms of disease.
