BI 286 Molecular Mechanisms of Disease for Graduate Students, Professor Boekelheide
This seminar examines research questions and modern techniques in molecular mechanisms of human disease with an emphasis on environmental and occupational exposures. Correlation will be made between histopathological alterations of human disease and molecular pathogenesis. Topics include cell injury and adaptation, inflammation and wound healing, vascular disease, cancer, and reproductive toxicology. detailed description

BI 284 / EN 292 Small Wonders - Science, Technology and Human Health Impacts of Nanomaterials, Professors Hurt and Kane
This is a multidisciplinary course focusing on nanomaterials as enabling components in emerging nanotechnologies. Major classes of nanomaterials, their synthesis, processing, and properties are covered. This course also covers scaling laws for physicochemical properties, manipulation and characterization tools, ass well as the nanotechnology movement and its societal impacts. The applications section will emphasize the interface between nanomaterials and biological systems, including toxicity, biocompatibility, and nanotechnology-based cancer diagnostics and therapies. The fundamental interactions of nanoscale structures with biological molecules, cells and whole organisms will be explored. Suitable for students in engineering, physical sciences, or biology. detailed description
