Brown University is a private, nonsectarian institution founded in 1764. The campus is a 133-acre complex located in a colonial restoration district in Providence, the capital city of Rhode Island. Modern research laboratories are located in the Biomedical Center on the Brown University campus, in the Laboratories for Molecular Medicine at 70 Ship Street, and in nearby hospitals affiliated with the medical school. There are 5,500 undergraduate students, 1,300 graduate students, and 290 medical students enrolled annually in the University.

Directions: From points north of providence
  • From 95 South, take exit 20 (a left exit) onto 195 East
  • Take the Downtown Providence Exit (Exit 1)
  • As you come off the exit ramp, turn left onto Dyer Street
  • Follow Dyer Street until it becomes Eddy Street
  • Turn right onto Ship Street after the 195 underpass
  • Go 2 blocks
  • The building will be on your left
From points south of Providence
  • From 95 North, take exit 20 to 195 East
  • Take the Downtown Providence Exit (Exit 1)

From Cape Cod and points east of Providence*
  • From 195 West
  • Take the Main Street Exit (Exit 2)
  • Take the first left onto James Street
  • Take another left onto South Water Street
  • South Water Street is a two-lane, one-way street, get into the right lane
  • At the first intersection, turn right onto the Point Street Bridge
  • At the next light turn right onto Richmond Street
  • Turn left onto Ship Street
  • The building will be on your right
*Note: going in this direction, you will only be able to travel the first two blocks of Ship Street, after that point it becomes a one-way street
